01 / How participation worksLearn freely. Choose whether to save.
Anyone can read educational material without an account. The guest commitment builder and guest 30-Day Turn save data in this browser's local storage. We do not automatically upload guest notes to a server; clearing browser data, changing devices, or using private browsing can erase them.
Creating an account is optional. If enabled and you choose to sign in, your commitments and 30-day reflections entered in the account area are saved to our database and can be retrieved when you sign in again. We do not silently import device-only notes; using the optional copy button fills an account form for your review, and a separate checkbox lets you explicitly choose whether to upload existing guest reflections.
02 / Account information and reflectionsWhat we collect in private accounts
Our identity provider, Clerk, manages sign-in and may process account identifiers, email addresses, authentication data, and login-security information under its privacy terms. Our application stores the provider's user identifier, your chosen commitment, journey start date, optional Day 7/14/21/30 reflections, save dates, and your acceptance of the terms. It does not need your legal name or an account photo to save a journey.
Your journal is private from other participants and public-board moderators, and it is not made public by signing in. Authorized technical operators of the database may still have limited access where necessary for operation, security, troubleshooting, or lawful obligations. Please avoid entering medical diagnoses, court information, or identifying details about other people.
03 / Voluntary public boardPublishing is a separate decision
For adults 18 or older, the optional Commitment Board asks for a first name, last initial, city, U.S. state, one commitment, and commitment category. It records the submission date automatically. The public card shows only these approved fields. You do not need to publish anything to keep a private account journal, and an account journey is never automatically posted to the board.
A combination of first name, initial, and city may identify someone to acquaintances. Please consider that before choosing to submit. Do not publish allegations or identifying information about anyone else.
Each board submission enters a private moderation queue and is only displayed when approved. Approval does not verify anyone's identity, sobriety, or future conduct. Pending items automatically expire after 90 days; rejected items are deleted after 30 days. Approved and hidden submissions remain until withdrawn or removed under our retention procedures.
04 / Deletion, exports, and retentionYou retain meaningful control
In your account dashboard, you can download your journals as a JSON file and permanently delete individual journeys and their reflections. You can also erase guest reflections from your device. Removing an account journey does not automatically delete identity-provider account data, and clearing your device does not erase server-stored journals.
Public board submissions receive a one-time removal code. The service stores a hash of that code so you can request removal without creating an account. If you lose it, contact the site operator for assistance. We may need to verify a request before acting on someone else's information.
We retain approved public commitments until removed; private account journeys remain until you delete them or your account is closed, subject to security backups and legally required retention. Backup copies may persist temporarily according to the hosting and backup retention settings. We will establish and disclose a definite backup and account-deletion schedule before broad public launch.
05 / Service providers and safeguardsHow the site is operated
We use Vercel to host the application, MongoDB Atlas to store submitted and account records, Clerk for optional identity and authentication, and Cloudflare Turnstile to help screen public-board submissions when they open. These providers may process limited network, browser, security, and service-use information under their own policies. The site operator does not sell commitments, use them for insurance or employment scoring, or intentionally place advertising trackers on private journal pages.
We apply access controls, encrypted connections, server-side authorization, and moderation. No internet system can guarantee absolute security. Do not use this website as a confidential legal, medical, or crisis-counseling service.
06 / Minors and sensitive informationAdult accounts and public posts
Account journals and public board posting are intended for adults aged 18 and older. We do not knowingly invite children to create accounts or submit identifying information. If you believe a minor's information was submitted, please contact us so we can review and remove it.
Reflections about drinking patterns or health can be sensitive, even when the application is not a healthcare provider. We ask for only what is necessary for the chosen feature and encourage short, non-identifying entries. The Turn Ahead is not a medical record or treatment program.
07 / Questions and changesContact and policy updates
For privacy requests, account-data questions, public-post removals, or concerns about content, contact the project at the privacy address listed by the project operator before accounts open. We may ask you to verify ownership of an account or submission. We may update this policy as the project grows and will identify the date of the current version on this page.
Other important pages: Terms of Use, Community Guidelines, and Educational Disclaimer.
Before public launch: This is a working policy draft for operator and legal review. The project will not open account registration or public submissions until an appropriate contact channel, final retention procedures, and other launch safeguards are configured.
